Assault to hate speech, Satyam Pandit has 8 FIRs against him

Ghaziabad: Satyam Pandit, the man purportedly seen in a video confronting and assaulting two students returning from the Jantar Mantar protest, has been named in at least eight FIRs in Ghaziabad over the past three years. The cases range from assault and vandalism to alleged inflammatory speeches and attacks on meat vendors. The latest controversy erupted after Pandit — who describes himself as president of an outfit called Hindu Veer Sena — himself uploaded a video purportedly showing him questioning two students about their names, religion and why they had attended the Jantar Mantar protest. He then purportedly abuses the two, threatens and slaps one of them. The incident has triggered widespread demands for police action. Police, however, said no case had been registered till Sunday in the absence of any formal complaint.Police records show the first FIR against Pandit was lodged in June 2022 at Sihani Gate police station, where he was accused of assaulting a shopkeeper and vandalising his outlet. In Aug 2024, he was arrested for allegedly delivering an inflammatory speech targeting Bangladeshis and the Rohingya community. In Feb this year, Ghaziabad police registered an FIR against him over allegations of assaulting vendors during a campaign to enforce the closure of meat shops on Tuesdays.Pandit has repeatedly courted controversy through social media posts. In one widely circulated video on Kanwar yatra, he urged UP govt not to deploy Muslim police personnel on pilgrimage duty and demanded the removal of an ACP from the minority community posted in Ghaziabad. The video drew criticism, following which police began examining its contents. The latest viral video has once again placed Pandit under scrutiny, with opposition leaders and civil society groups demanding action against him over the alleged assault on the two students.
