PHAGWARA: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday accused the AAP government in Punjab of betraying the state’s youth by failing to ensure transparency in recruitment examinations.Referring to the recent excise inspector recruitment examination, the BJP leader alleged that the results revealed serious irregularities, claiming that several selected candidates had unusual names such as “SBI”, “GIPS” and “Photo”.He further alleged that some candidates, who had reportedly listed two examination centres in their applications, were selected twice, pointing to what he described as glaring discrepancies in the recruitment process.

Saini also targeted the Punjab government over the alleged leak of the recent Pharmacy examination paper, news agency PTI reported.He said repeated incidents of paper leaks amounted to a betrayal of talented and hardworking youth aspiring for government jobs.Addressing a programme in Punjab’s Phagwara, Saini inaugurated a blood donation camp and flagged off an ambulance service.He asserted that government jobs in Haryana are being awarded strictly on the basis of merit, PTI reported.Earlier in the day, speaking at an event in Zirakpur, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann claimed that there had not been a single paper leak involving a competitive examination during the AAP government’s 4.5 year tenure in the state.His remarks came amid allegations by the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP that several examination papers had been leaked under the AAP government in Punjab.Mann maintained that only a cheating case had surfaced, referring to the Punjab Police’s busting of a highly sophisticated inter-state cheating racket operating during the recently held pharmacy officer examination.Paying tribute on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed on July 26, Saini honoured the soldiers who laid down their lives while defending the country’s borders under the most challenging circumstances.He said the nation’s soldiers protected India’s frontiers by shedding their blood, while blood donors today were pledging to save lives through voluntary blood donation.Saini also highlighted the Haryana government’s anti-drug campaign, saying awareness is being spread among the youth through marathons and various outreach programmes.(With agency inputs)
