Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized drugs and other contraband worth Rs 6.84 crore in two separate operations, according to a statement issued on Friday by IGP and police department chief public relations officer H Ramthlengliana.In the first case, a police team in Saitual district, bordering Manipur, intercepted an Ashok Leyland truck with an Assam registration on Thursday. During a search, police recovered 2.096 kg of morphine, valued at an estimated Rs 2,09,60,000. The driver, Kabir Hussain, 30, of Tarapur in Assam’s Katigora district, was apprehended on the spot and the vehicle was seized.In the second seizure, police from Zokhawthar Police Station, during routine patrolling along the Zokhawthar-Melbuk road early Tuesday, spotted a scooter in the Mualrawt area of Zokhawthar village near the Myanmar border. The two riders allegedly abandoned the scooter and fled towards Myanmar on seeing police.A search of the scooter led to the recovery of six bundles of suspected methamphetamine tablets concealed in the seat compartment. The contraband weighed 7.338 kg and is estimated to be worth Rs 4,75,04,000.A case was registered at Zokhawthar Police Station under Sections 22(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Investigation is underway and a manhunt has been launched for the absconding suspects.
