Chennai: Highlighting the aggressive recruitment drive undertaken by the Karnataka govt, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the Tamil Nadu govt to announce the recruitment of 1.5 lakh public sector positions in its upcoming revised budget for 2026–27.In a statement issued on Friday, Anbumani criticised the state administration for failing to address the growing vacancy crisis in Tamil Nadu, where millions of educated youths continue to wait for stable employment opportunities. He pointed out that Karnataka chief minister D K Shivakumar ordered the filling of 72,186 vacant positions across various govt departments within six months.Following swift clearance from Karnataka’s finance department, 15 notifications were issued in recent days alone, bringing immense relief to job seekers in the neighbouring state. In contrast, Anbumani alleged that despite electoral promises that all vacant govt positions would be filled rapidly, Tamil Nadu has failed to launch any comprehensive new recruitment drive since the change of power.Anbumani said at least six lakh posts are vacant across state govt departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and local bodies. The previous DMK administration had pledged in its 2021 election manifesto to fill 3.5 lakh vacant posts and create 2 lakh new positions (totaling 5.5 lakh jobs), but delivered fewer than 50,000 permanent appointments over its five-year tenure. During the same five-year period, nearly 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh govt employees retired, further expanding the unfilled vacancy backlog.
