Silchar: Heavy rain triggered track subsidence in Dima Hasao, disrupting services on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section. The soil beneath nearly 200 metres of tracks on lines 1 and 2 near New Harangajao railway station gave way late on Thursday, bending the rails and making them unsafe, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said. The damage, in the 118/1-3 km section, was detected during a routine inspection, prompting the suspension of train movement on the affected lines.NFR cancelled the 15615 Guwahati-Silchar Express scheduled for July 24 and the 15616 Silchar-Guwahati Express scheduled for July 25.Passenger and freight trains are operating through line 3 at New Harangajao under strict safety restrictions, with a maximum speed of 10 kmph. Materials and equipment have been mobilised to expedite repairs.Senior railway officials are monitoring the work and conducting regular safety inspections.
