New Delhi: Delhi Police Wednesday dismissed reports that additional DCP Sandeep Lamba was removed from duty.The clarification came after social media posts claimed that Lamba was taken off duty following allegations that he slapped a woman protester during the CJP-led march to Parliament on July 20. Several videos circulated online appeared to show the senior officer slapping a woman protester. His personal details were also allegedly leaked online.A Delhi Police spokesperson confirmed that Lamba had not been removed, adding that officers are being posted according to a roster of the department.Sources said the speculation may have started as several officers returned to their respective districts after Monday’s deployment. Since then, officers are being called according to requirements.Local police have also stepped up deployment in their respective areas.Lamba, a Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) officer, was among the senior officers deployed during the protest.Police are also examining multiple videos related to the march, including one showing a policeman striking a woman from behind with a baton. Police said several video clips have been sent for forensic examination to verify of these are untampered, unedited, unmanipulated or taken out of context.Police said that if the videos are found to be authentic, an inquiry will be conducted, and action will be taken if any wrongdoing is established.In another instance, a policeman who was wrongly identified in a viral video as a cop accused of assaulting a protester has filed a complaint with the cyber cell, alleging that his family’s personal details, including their address, were leaked online.Police are looking into the complaint.
