Hyderabad: A 41-year-old Telangana Special Police (TGSP) head constable posted on security duty at the Telangana state police headquarters allegedly shot himself dead inside the barracks in the early hours of Thursday, with investigators suspecting financial distress as the reason behind the suicide.The deceased, V Swamy, a native of Veliminedu village in Nalgonda district, was serving with the VIII Battalion of TGSP at Kondapur. He is survived by wife Mounika, a private college lecturer, and their two children. The family resides in Bapu Ghat area.Swamy was part of a TGSP team deployed for guard duty at the DGP’s office in Lakdikapul and had reported for duty at 9 am on July 22.According to police, at around 7.30 am on Thursday, Swamy entered the washroom of the barracks near the exit gate of the police headquarters and allegedly used a service pistol to shoot himself.“The in-charge of the team, who is an SI, handed over the weapon to Swamy for safe keeping while going to washroom,” a Saifabad police officer said.Hearing the gunshot, fellow personnel rushed to the washroom and found Swamy lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot injury to his head.Police recovered a suicide note from his belongings. In the note, Swamy reportedly expressed his love for his family and appealed that they should not be harassed. A forensic team collected evidence from the scene, including the pistol, bullet casing, and gunshot residue samples.Khairatabad DCP K Shilpavali said, “Prima facie it appears like he resorted to the extreme step due to financial problems. We are collecting more information by talking to his family members.”Investigators said Swamy had allegedly taken loans to construct a house on the outskirts of Hyderabad and had been facing financial difficulties. So far, police said they have found no evidence suggesting he had incurred debts for any other reason.“My husband was suffering from financial problems. Previously, he attempted suicide two to three times. I feared that he might die by suicide using guns as he always had them. I do not suspect anyone behind my husband’s death,” Mounika said in her complaint to police.Based on her complaint, Saifabad police registered a case under section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS. After postmortem examination at Osmania general hospital, the body was handed over to the family.
