Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University administration has circulated a list of more than 110 expelled, debarred, suspended and banned students to institute directors, faculty deans, department heads, college principals, and centre/school coordinators.The list has also been shared with admission committees to ensure that these students are not considered for admission to any course at the university during the 2026-27 academic session.According to the administration, the students were allegedly involved in various incidents reported on campus between 2016 and 2026. The list, dated July 20 and issued by the Office of the Registrar (Academic), includes six expelled students, 47 students debarred from future admission, studies, or employment at BHU, 57 suspended students, and eight banned students.The cases cited in the list include alleged offences under the Lok Sampatti Kshati Nivaran Adhiniyam, incidents of assault and vandalism at different locations on campus, the alleged sexual assault of a female research scholar in 2016, the murder of Gaurav Kumar Singh on April 3, 2019, alleged misconduct and threats against Prof. Ranjana Mitra of Mahila Mahavidyalaya on February 5, 2018, and an alleged molestation and abuse incident reported on August 17, 2021.The university administration said the action was based on the students’ alleged involvement in serious incidents over the years, including the abduction of an ambulance driver, hostel vandalism, damage to university property, aggressive protests at the main gate and the vice-chancellor’s residence, physical assaults, and serious cases involving female students.The move comes days after students staged a protest on the BHU campus over alleged irregularities in a question paper and accusations of a paper leak.The university administration clarified that the action is based on previously registered cases and disciplinary inquiries and has no connection with the recent protest. It added that circulating such a list before the admission process is a routine administrative procedure.
