Guwahati: After days of anxiety triggered by a fake notification and rumours about incorrect result dates, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Class XII state board examination results will be declared on April 28.Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) officials said the results will be released in the morning on April 28 and an official notification will be issued soon.“Higher secondary results will be declared on April 28. My best wishes to all students appearing for the exam,” chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is campaigning in West Bengal for the assembly elections, announced on Thursday.The announcement follows speculation that results could be declared in mid-April during Rongali Bihu celebrations. Over the past 24 hours, a fake notification circulated on social media, falsely claiming to be issued by ASSEB, stating that results would be declared on April 24.More than 3.3 lakh candidates — the highest ever for the Assam Class XII state board examination — appeared for the exams held in February and March this year, up from about 3.02 lakh candidates last year. “The result is under process and it will be declared on April 28 as announced by the CM,” said a source in ASSEB. Last year, the pass percentage fell across all three major streams by 5% to 7 percentage points. Board officials said they are monitoring how the rise in candidate numbers may affect this year’s pass percentage. In science stream, the pass percentage dropped to 84.88% last year from 89.88% in 2024. In commerce, it fell from 87.66% in 2024 to 82.18% in 2025.
