Bengaluru: A test drive went awry for a woman as she pressed the accelerator mistaking it for clutch, knocked down a pedestrian and then rammed an electric pole in KR Pura Monday evening. The injured pedestrian, identified as Shantamma, filed a complaint against the driver, Supriya, accusing her of causing injuries by driving in a rash and negligent manner.According to police sources, Supriya, a resident of Singaianapalya, wanted to buy a Maruti Swift Dzire and visited a used car showroom near her house. There were 3-4 Swift Dzires for sale, and Supriya chose one of them and said she wanted to test-drive the vehicle. “Since she had a driving licence and had visited the showroom a few times, the staff handed over the keys to her. Normally, an assistant accompanies the person taking test drive. But Supriya was alone,” an investigating officer said.“Supriya came out of the showroom around 5.30pm and drove towards the bus stop. However, after driving for around 100 metres, she bent her head for some reason. When she looked up, she saw people crossing the road and wanted to shift gear to slow down the vehicle. But amid the confusion, she pressed the accelerator instead of the clutch. The car suddenly zoomed forward, hit the woman and then the pole,” police said.
