Chennai: Relatives of a 24-year-old woman, whose body was brought to the hospital for a postmortem on Tuesday, staged a road blockade outside the hospital, alleging that she was murdered over dowry harassment. They demanded immediate action against her husband and mother-in-law.According to sources, Reshma married Kumar in 2021, and they have a one-year-old daughter. On Tuesday, Reshma’s mother, Saina, received information that her daughter had died by suicide at her residence. Suspicious after finding injuries on Reshma’s body, Saina lodged a complaint with the Royapettah police station. Subsequently, when the body was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem, her relatives assembled outside the hospital and blocked the road. They refused to accept the body until action was taken against her husband and mother-in-law.Police personnel reached the spot and held talks with the protesters to restore normal traffic. The blockade was later cleared. Hospital authorities also informed the family that the postmortem will be conducted only after an inquiry by the revenue divisional dfficer. The Royapettah police have registered a case.
