Ahmedabad: Water-borne diseases continued to rise in Ahmedabad, 283 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, 184 cases of typhoid and 45 cases of jaundice reported in the first 19 days of July.According to epidemic data released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health department on Tuesday, between July 1 and July 19, the city also recorded 14 cases of malaria, two cases of falciparum malaria, 19 cases of dengue and one case of chikungunya.As part of its surveillance during the monsoon, the civic body carried out water quality checks across the city. A total of 32,044 water samples were tested for chlorine content, of which 25 were found to have no residual chlorine. The health department also collected 4,665 water samples for bacteriological analysis, with 31 samples declared unfit for consumption.The cumulative disease burden this year also was significant. Between Jan 1 and July 19, Ahmedabad reported 3,417 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, 1,118 cases of typhoid and 409 cases of jaundice.Vector-borne diseases also continued to surface, though at comparatively lower levels. During the same period, the city registered 139 malaria cases, including 16 falciparum malaria infections, along with 178 dengue cases and three cases of chikungunya.
