Gurgaon: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the district over the next few days and warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places on Wednesday. The prevailing weather conditions are being driven by an active monsoon trough passing through north India and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall.Showers began around 12.30 am on Tuesday, ending the spell of sultry weather that had gripped the city over the past several days. The rain continued through the early morning hours. By the afternoon, the clouds had cleared and the sun was out, but the weather remained pleasant compared with the previous few days.The overnight showers triggered a sharp drop in temperatures. The city recorded Haryana’s lowest minimum temperature at 18 degrees Celsius, which was 7.9 degrees Celsius below normal, according to the IMD. Across the state, the average minimum temperature fell by 2.9 degrees Celsius compared with Monday. As sunshine returned later in the day, the mercury climbed to a maximum of 30.1 degrees Celsius at the IMD’s Gurgaon observatory. Despite the afternoon warming, the state’s average maximum temperature remained 2.5 degrees Celsius below normal, although it rose by 3.7 degrees Celsius over the previous day.Rainfall varied across different parts of Gurgaon district. According to the district administration’s tehsil-wise rainfall report, Manesar recorded the highest rainfall at 43 mm during the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Tuesday. Gurgaon tehsil received 26 mm of rain, followed by Wazirabad (20 mm), Pataudi (16 mm), Kadipur, Harsaru and Badshahpur (15 mm each), Sohna (10 mm) and Farrukhnagar (2 mm).The IMD observatory in Gurgaon recorded 31 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am, while the department listed both Gurgaon and Manesar among the state’s locations receiving significant rainfall during the period.The weather office has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places in Gurgaon on Tuesday and at many places on Wednesday, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning likely at isolated locations on both days. Rainfall activity is expected to ease from Thursday, although intermittent showers are likely to continue through the week.
