Ludhiana: Erratic power supply, poor civic infrastructure, traffic congestion, law and order concerns, sewerage problems and delays in govt clearances were among the key issues raised by industrial associations during a single window system meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain on Monday.Representatives of various industrial bodies highlighted long-pending issues affecting industrial operations and sought prompt intervention from the administration.The Federation of industrial and commercial organisations (FICO) expressed concern over unscheduled power cuts and poor-quality electricity supply, stating that these were adversely impacting production in industrial units. The organisation also demanded improvement of infrastructure in industrial areas and focal points, restoration of streetlights, scientific waste management through static compactors, regular sewerage maintenance, proper storm-water drainage, removal of illegal truck and trailer parking, anti-encroachment drives and enhanced police surveillance to strengthen industrial security.Members of the Textile colony small industries association also raised flagged erratic power supply and inadequate maintenance of transformers. The association highlighted safety concerns of industrialists and workers and pointed out that blocked sewerage lines often lead to flooding in the monsoon season.According to the representatives, waterlogging damages roads, creates unhygienic conditions and disrupts industrial activity. They added that such conditions leave a poor impression on foreign buyers visiting Ludhiana’s textile hub.The Knit’s and fab hosiery association drew attention to the deteriorating power situation and traffic management issues in industrial areas. Other participants echoed concerns over inadequate street lighting, poor sanitation, choked sewerage systems, encroachments and rising crime in industrial zones.The Janta Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association raised the long-pending issue of mixed land use and urged the administration to seek an early policy decision on the matter.Responding to the concerns, deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain directed officials to take immediate action on issues falling under their jurisdiction. He said such meetings would be held regularly to review pending matters, improve coordination among govt departments and ensure faster resolution of problems faced by industrial units.The meeting also focused on bridging the gap between industrial demand and the availability of skilled manpower. Discussions were held on improving coordination among the Punjab Skill Development Mission, District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises, District Education Department and the Multi Skill Development Centre.District Industries Centre (DIC) general manager S S Rekhi said industry representatives had sought a platform where they could directly interact with the deputy commissioner and heads of departments. He said the single window meeting provided an opportunity to discuss bottlenecks and work towards practical solutions.
