Congress set to unveil Rajasthan team, women may get biggest-ever share

Jaipur: The Congress high command is expected to clear Rajasthan’s new organisational team next week, with PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra scheduled to meet party president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal in Delhi to give final shape to the list Wednesday.According to party sources, the meeting is expected to settle last-minute adjustments after weeks of consultations with senior state Congressmen. The exercise is likely to result in a major shake-up, with more than half of the existing office-bearers expected to be dropped following a review of their organisational performance.“The feedback from the organisation has been clear. The high command wants accountability and visible work on the ground. Several names are being replaced on that basis,” a senior AICC functionary said. The revamp, the second under Dotasra, comes amid growing pressure within the party to energise the organisation ahead of the local body elections and to end complaints that several office-bearers remained inactive despite holding key positions.Sources said the Congress leadership has sought the views of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully before freezing the list. The final exercise is aimed at ensuring that no single camp dominates the organisation while accommodating representation across regions and social groups.“There is an effort to strike a balance between Gehlot loyalists, Pilot camp and members who have emerged independently over the past few years. Social representation is also a key consideration,” a senior Rajasthan Congressman said. The reshuffle is also expected to significantly increase the representation of women, Dalits, OBCs and younger members. Party insiders said women could account for the largest-ever share of PCC office-bearers, with the leadership keen to send a political message on women’s representation. The organisational exercise is also expected to break the perception that a few influential communities have enjoyed disproportionate representation in the PCC for years.Party members said the list is likely to be released soon after Dotasra’s meeting in Delhi, unless last-minute political adjustments delay the announcement. The new team will shoulder the responsibility of preparing the Congress organisation for the upcoming local body elections and sharpening the party’s campaign against the BJP govt.Raj gets two in AICC OBC women’s panelThe Congress has constituted the national executive committee of its OBC Mahila Congress, giving Rajasthan representation in the new body.
