KARWAR: A leisure trip to Dandeli turned into a nightmare for a young man from Vijayapura after a zipline cable snapped mid-ride at a private resort, leaving him with severe injuries. The incident, which occurred on July 3, has come to light only recently. The injured has been identified as Kuber Surpur, a resident of Vijayapura district. He had travelled to Dandeli with his brother, Prashant, for a short vacation when the accident took place.According to family members, Kuber was midway through a zipline ride when the safety lock mechanism gave way. He plunged from a height of around 30 to 40 feet, crashing to the ground. The incident was reportedly captured on a mobile phone by his brother. The fall allegedly left Kuber with multiple fractures in both his arms and legs, besides nerve damage. He was initially rushed to the government hospital in Dandeli, where he received first aid. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Vijayapura and subsequently moved to a hospital in Miraj, Maharashtra, for advanced treatment.Doctors have already performed one surgery and indicated that he will require further procedures on his arms and legs, sources said.Kuber’s family has blamed the resort management for negligence, alleging that adequate safety measures were not in place. They also claimed that while the resort initially assured them it would bear all medical expenses, it has since failed to honour that promise.Responding to the allegations, the manager of the resort acknowledged that the accident had occurred but denied any negligence on the part of the staff. He described it as an unforeseen incident and said he would soon visit Vijayapura to meet the family and discuss the matter.
