Mohali: A youth was killed and another critically injured after a speeding Thar SUV rammed into a road divider pillar near Kumbra light point late Friday night. The injured youth was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Eyewitnesses said the SUV was travelling at very high speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle crashed straight into the divider pillar. The impact mangled its front portion. Local residents rushed to the spot, pulled the occupants out, and alerted the police. A police team arrived soon after and, with the help of a crane, removed the damaged vehicle from the road. The SUV was seized for investigation. During preliminary checks, police recovered suspicious items from inside the SUV, raising doubts that the occupants may have been under the influence of intoxicants. Officials said confirmation would depend on medical and forensic reports. Police have started identifying the two youths through registration details and documents found in the vehicle.
