Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) has approved 71 multidisciplinary courses (MDCs) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, allowing students to study subjects beyond their core discipline. With the introduction of the new courses, science students will be able to opt for subjects such as Sanskrit, astrology and other humanities disciplines, while students from humanities streams can choose courses from science and commerce. The MDCs will be mandatory for undergraduate students and will carry three credits each academic year. The initiative is aimed at promoting interdisciplinary learning and encouraging students to develop a broader academic outlook and practical skills.University spokesperson Yashwant Virodai said students can select courses from science, social sciences, humanities and commerce streams, but will not be permitted to choose a subject already being pursued as a major or minor. The course basket includes subjects such as renewable energy, vermicomposting, e-commerce and Indian heritage.“The objective is to break the traditional boundaries between arts, science and commerce and encourage students to think across disciplines,” Virodai said.He added that the initiative would enable students to integrate knowledge from different fields and apply it to real-world challenges, in line with the goals of NEP 2020.
