Gurgaon: Thirteen Bangladeshi nationals, detained a month ago during raids at construction sites in sectors 69, 70 and 104, were put on a train to Malda in West Bengal on Thursday as part of the process to send them back to their country.The group, living illegally in the city, was escorted from New Delhi railway station on the New Delhi-Malda Town Express and will be handed over to Border Security Force or other designated authorities, to be sent back across the India-Bangladesh border.“We deployed an escort team of 23 personnel, under an inspector, to take the 13 foreign nationals to Malda,” ACP Naveen Sharma said.The exercise comes amid a citywide crackdown on suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Police are also verifying the identities of more than 1,200 people found during raids across colonies, slums, labour settlements, rented accommodation and industrial areas, most employed as daily-wage labourers.Documents submitted by those under scrutiny have been forwarded to district magistrates in the states they claim as their native places and, where required, to the concerned facility security officers to confirm identities and addresses.Twelve of the 13 men were identified as Arif, Sumon Ali, Sabir Hussain, Rubal, Sakib, Robiul, Gulzar Hussain, Naeem, Mehboob, Hamidur Islam, Atiyar Rahman and Mohammad Hesan. Most were in their 20s and 30s and worked as construction labourers, according to sources. One person was yet to be identified.The Sector 39 crime branch, under DCP (crime) Hitesh Yadav, carried out the operation on specific intelligence inputs. After medical examinations, the men were held at a detention centre in Sector 1, IMT Manesar, before Thursday’s transfer.Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan appealed to residents to report suspicious persons or illegally residing foreign nationals, and urged verification of tenants, domestic help and hotel or commercial staff. Suspicious activity can be reported on helpline 112 or at the nearest police station.
