Amritsar: A confrontation over an alleged secret marriage turned fatal when a woman and her cousin set her former boyfriend on fire in Punjab’s Majitha, only to be dragged into the flames themselves, police said on Thursday.Finding out her ex-boyfriend Sandeep Singh had married another woman, Rajwinder invited him home on the pretext of a meeting. Following a heated argument, Rajwinder and her cousin Harpal doused Sandeep in petrol and allegedly set him ablaze. As the flames engulfed him, Sandeep grabbed Rajwinder and pulled her into the fire. Harpal was also caught in the flames while trying to separate them. Sandeep died at the spot. Rajwinder and Harpal survived with critical burns and are hospitalised in Amritsar. Police said both suspects have confessed to the crime. Police have registered a murder case and placed them under strict armed guard at the hospital.
