Kolkata: The KP has launched a crackdown on a vehicle identity-theft racket operating in the city following the detection of multiple cases where criminals forged registration numbers to evade traffic fines and engage in illegal activities.In the sixth such incident this year, the Survey Park PS registered a case based on a written complaint by a 28-year-old resident of Salkia.The complainant found the fraud after receiving a notification for a traffic violation at Jora Bridge, an area he had not visited. An unknown person was riding a two-wheeler with a forged number plate similar to his. Police suspect the accused forged documents to make the plate. A similar case was registered after a Shyampukur resident lodged a complaint at Cossipore PS. He was contacted by traffic cops over parking violation but his vehicle was in garage.
