Chennai: A 21-year-old woman suffered severe burns after her husband poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze during a domestic quarrel near Ponneri. The victim, Zubaida, lived with her husband Nisar, 23, an autorickshaw driver, at Muslim Nagar near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district. Police said Nisar stopped going to work and frequently quarrelled with his wife after consuming alcohol. On Wednesday night, an argument broke out after he returned home drunk. Nisar locked the door from inside, poured kerosene on Zubaida and set her on fire.Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house and rescued her, while Nisar fled the house. Zubaida was initially taken to the Ponneri Govt Hospital and later shifted to the ICU at the Govt Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.Ponneri police arrested Nisar and are conducting further investigation.
