Hyderabad: Roads and buildings (R&B) minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials to treat the road development programme being taken up at a cost of 98,000 crore as top priority and ensure its swift execution.“Nearly 6,500 people lost their lives in road accidents in the state in 2025. Taking this seriously, govt is implementing large-scale road development along with road safety initiatives such as ‘Arrive Alive” programme’,” the minister said.At a review meeting on road construction and infrastructure development, which was also attended by deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka, minister Venkat Reddy said the prestigious Indian Roads Congress (IRC) conference, which attracts contractors and infrastructure experts from across India and the world, would be held at HITEX in Nov. The minister expressed confidence that the IRC meeting would bring in investments worth over 20,000 crore to the state.The ministers stated that, in an unprecedented move in the history of the undivided state, road construction and development works worth 98,000 crore were being undertaken. They said efforts were being made to make Telangana the number one state in India in road infrastructure by 2028-end.Revealing details of the works to be taken up worth 98,000 crore, Venkat Reddy said approach roads worth 148 crore that would resolve connectivity issues in around 300 villages. He criticised the previous govt for not allocating funds for these works.“Under HAM (hybrid annuity model), 6,000 km of roads are being developed at a cost of 13,000 crore. Bids have been completed, and works will commence shortly. The Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway is being upgraded at a cost of 20,000 crore into an eight-lane corridor (six main lanes and two service lanes). Flyovers and bridges at accident-prone black spots, including Choutuppal and Chityal, are being constructed with 500 crore. A greenfield road project from Future City to Amaravati-Bandar Port is being planned at a cost of 20,000 crore, with alignment proposals submitted to the Centre. A parallel alignment for a bullet train has also been proposed. Also, 8,000 crore has been allocated for a 52-km elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam,” he said.He said 36,000 crore has been sanctioned for the Regional Ring Road (RRR), described as a game-changing project. The state has already deposited 628 crore as its share for land acquisition of the northern arm with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the minister said.Along with them, a double-decker elevated corridor from LB Nagar to Hayathnagar was being taken up at a cost of 941 crore, with 741 crore from the Centre and 200 crore from the state. The minister added that new roads were being constructed in villages lacking connectivity, and single-lane roads were being upgraded to double-lane roads. He said that improved road infrastructure would attract large-scale industries to the state, creating significant employment opportunities for local youth.
