Gurgaon: With thousands of property transactions being facilitated through intermediaries every month, the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRera), Gurgaon, on Wednesday issued an advisory urging buyers to deal only with registered real estate agents.Dealing through registered agents provides buyers legal protection against fraud and unauthorised transactions. It also gives buyers access to grievance redressal mechanisms in case of future disputes.HRERA Gurgaon Chairman Arun Kumar said, “Homebuyers should always verify the registration status of the real estate agent before entering into a transaction. This step can protect buyers, strengthen accountability and promote transparency in the real estate sector.”The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, clearly mandates registration of a real estate agent for any sale or purchase of property in a real estate project. It defines a real estate agent broadly to include property dealers, brokers, consultants and other intermediaries involved in facilitating property transactions.Any person operating as a real estate agent without registration is prohibited from advertising, marketing, facilitating or undertaking any property-related transactions.Buyers can verify an agent’s registration status on the HRera Gurgaon website using the registration number or the agent’s details.
