Varanasi: A suspected dispute over her husband’s remarriage ended in tragedy in Mirzapur district late on Monday night, when a 38-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her three children before consuming the substance herself, leaving her and two of her children dead, while her eldest daughter remains in critical condition.The incident took place in Parsauna village under the Marihan police station limits, where Kusum (38) allegedly administered poison to her three children before consuming it herself.Kusum and her children — Madhu (12), Radhika (10) and Satya (8) — were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Marihan after their condition deteriorated. Owing to their critical condition, they were referred to the district hospital.Kusum and her daughter Radhika died during treatment at the district hospital. Madhu and Satya were later referred to the Trauma Centre in Varanasi, where Satya also died. Madhu continues to be in a critical condition.According to Kusum’s brother, Chhotu, a resident of Kusumha village, her husband Dharmendra, who works in Delhi, had returned home four days ago. Kusum allegedly suspected that he had remarried. A settlement was reportedly reached on July 12, under which Dharmendra was expected to take her to Delhi the following day. However, he allegedly left without her, after which she allegedly took the extreme step.Mirzapur ASP (Operations), Rajkumar Meena, said that the woman consumed poison along with her three children. The husband is absconding. The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
