Chennai: State govt will come up with a uniform and legally sustainable framework to address employment and rehabilitation-related demands arising from industrial and infra projects, including power plants, said electricity and law minister R Nirmalkumar after holding talks with representatives of eight fishermen unions from Ennore on Tuesday.The meeting focused on demands raised by the unions representing fishermen and other families of villages such as Thazhankuppam and Nettukuppam affected by power project-related land acquisition, livelihood loss, employment and rehabilitation issues.The minister said the govt was working on a uniform formula that would ensure fair treatment to all affected sections while remaining legally sustainable. The proposed framework would take into account project-displaced families, persons who lost their livelihoods, economically affected households and other eligible beneficiaries. He said the objective was to develop a policy that could be applied consistently to present and future projects, avoiding uncertainty and ensuring transparency in decision-making.The minister said he would inspect the villages in person in the coming days and will hold another meeting with the unions. The minister added that concerned departments will be consulted regarding ash removal, restoration of water bodies in Ennore area to improve the living conditions in the neighbourhood.
