Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza met Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Ravichandra Naik on Tuesday, and directed him not to disrupt birth and death registration services in the name of the SIR process.The MLC also ensured that notices displayed at the MCC office regarding disruption of services due to the SIR process were removed.Last week, Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath accused the state govt of creating administrative chaos by disrupting birth and death registration services at the MCC. In fact, the city corporation had pasted notices near the birth and death registration counters located at the office entrance. “Since the staff members have been deployed for election duty for the SIR process, the public is requested to cooperate from June 30 to July 29,” reads a notice found near the birth and death registration section.The MLC along with former mayors Shashidhar Hegde and Bhaskara Moily visited the birth and death registration section, where people were waiting in line. Noticing staff shortages at the application counters, the MLC met the commissioner.“At any cost, essential services like issuance of birth and death certificates should not be affected due to the SIR process,” the MLC said. The commissioner said sufficient staff will be deployed to ensure smooth work flow at the counters.
