Bengaluru: Karnataka has emerged as one of the best-performing states in Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ranking second in both distribution and digitisation of enumeration forms among five states undertaking the exercise.SIR began on June 29 in Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Meghalaya, with all five states following a common schedule that will culminate in publication of the final electoral rolls on Oct 7.According to the latest data available on chief electoral officers’ social media handles between 6pm on July 12 and 10am on July 13, Karnataka has completed distribution of 92.9% of enumeration forms among its 5.5 crore voters, placing it just behind Delhi, which achieved 93.3% distribution among its 1.4 crore electorate.Karnataka has the second-largest electorate among the five states after Maharashtra. Jharkhand has distributed 89.9% of forms among its 2.6 crore voters, while Meghalaya reached 79.8% of its 23.4 lakh electorate. Maharashtra, despite having the largest voter base at 9.7 crore, has distributed 65.2% of forms.Jharkhand leads in completion and digitisation of forms at 30.2% of its electorate. Karnataka follows at 26.1%, ahead of Meghalaya at 19.9%, Maharashtra at 18.8% and Delhi at 7.6%.The five states are expected to complete distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms by July 29. The digitised data will then be verified for logical discrepancies before the draft electoral rolls are published.The draft rolls will be released on Aug 5. Electors whose records contain logical discrepancies will receive notices from Election Commission seeking documentary proof from among the 11 documents listed with the enumeration form.
