UT chief engineer cracks whip on road re-carpeting delays

Chandigarh: Observing that road re-carpeting works in the city are not being monitored by the engineering officers concerned, the chief engineer of the Chandigarh civic body has warned the officials that any delay in work implementation would invite punitive action.Chief engineer Sanjay Arora has written to the superintending engineer and all three executive engineers of the building and road (B&R) wing, directing them that any delay due to inaction or non-enforcement of agreement conditions would be viewed seriously and non-timely action on violations of contractual provisions would attract disciplinary action. The chief engineer also directed them that it shall be ensured that all re-carpeting works were completed well before the onset of monsoon.Arora has also directed the supervision, monitoring and quality assurance of work regarding upgradation of Kajuali water works and rehabilitation of rising main (under 24×7 water supply project) under the Atal Mission of Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a project of the govt of India. Besides, directions are also issued to the officers of the solid waste management wing regarding bio-mining of legacy waste. Observing that the progress of bio-mining of legacy waste is still not appreciable despite repeated directions, the chief engineer has directed that the delay reflects lack of effective control, monitoring and supervision at the required level and, thus, monitoring and supervising the work to achieve the target is required.
