Bengaluru’s Hennur-Bagalur Road white-topping ‘by June 15’

Bengaluru: White-topping work on Hennur-Bagalur Road is expected to be complete by June 15, with officials indicating that the main roadwork will be finished by May and the remaining footpath and utility work in another three months.Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao inspected the site Wednesday and directed officials to accelerate pace of work. He ordered for additional staff to be deployed and buffer zones and footpaths to be developed in parallel with the white-topping work. The project was taken up in April 2025 with an 11-month deadline, but was delayed due to lack of clearance from traffic police for work on larger portions of the road, a senior B-SMILE official said. “We got only a quarter portion of the road at a time. Each portion had to be completed and opened to traffic before taking up the next. As we had to carry out the work only at night, the work was further delayed,” the official said. However, over the past four months, authorities have permitted work on half the road at a time, resulting in improved progress. Officials said the carriageway work is now nearing completion, while footpath and buffer zone development has also begun. The project is estimated to cost Rs 86.29 crore and covers a 5.5-km stretch from Hennur Cross to Bagalur Cross, spanning two Assembly constituencies. So far, around 4.2 km on one side and 2.2 km on the other side have been completed.MSID:: 130444456 413 |
