After 1.64L hiring, govt eyes 2L more jobs

Guwahati: After exceeding its promise of providing one lakh govt jobs in its previous tenure, the state govt has set a fresh target of creating two lakh employment opportunities across the broader public sector ecosystem over the next five years.Finance minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said the govt provided more than 1.64 lakh appointments in the last five years, surpassing its earlier commitment of one lakh jobs.Building on this, he said the govt would now focus on generating two lakh employment opportunities across a wide range of public sector institutions.“These will include govt departments, universities, medical colleges, statutory bodies, societies, Sixth Schedule Councils and companies with substantial State Govt shareholding,” Mallabaruah said.To facilitate the recruitment drive, the govt has set up a dedicated task force under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for employment generation. The panel will identify vacancies, streamline the recruitment process and recommend measures to achieve the target within the stipulated timeframe. He said the roadmap would also focus on ensuring timely promotions of existing employees, thereby creating additional entry-level vacancies for fresh recruitment.Besides filling existing posts, the govt will examine the creation of new positions in key sectors where manpower requirements are rising. According to the Budget, new posts may be created in the police force, revenue administration, educational and healthcare institutions, forest department and other revenue-generating departments to strengthen public service delivery while expanding employment opportunities.
