Human skull found in Jorhat garbage dump, improper biomedical waste disposal suspected

Dibrugarh: Sanitation workers found a human skull at a municipal garbage dump in Jorhat district on Friday, prompting a police inquiry.Workers spotted the skull while unloading a municipal collection vehicle and alerted police and district officials. A circle officer later visited the site to assess the situation.A municipal staff member said, “We were unloading the garbage vehicle when we came across a human skull. We reported it to the police and administration right away. The circle officer came down to inspect the site personally. The police have now started an investigation. There’s a wire attached to the skull, and the marking ‘B4’ is written on it. It looks like it could have been a specimen used for teaching or medical study that somehow ended up being thrown out with the trash.Police seized the skull and are examining the wire attachment and the “B4” label as key leads. Officials suspect it may have been an anatomical teaching specimen, potentially from a medical college or research facility, rather than linked to a crime.India’s Biomedical Waste Management Rules prohibit the disposal of human anatomical remains in municipal garbage. Such material must be handled through licensed biomedical waste facilities.
