Agartala: An additional district and sessions judge in West Tripura has sentenced a 55-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a minor girl two years ago.The convict was also fined Rs 50,000. The court found him guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 376(1) of the IPC.According to police, the incident took place in Jan 2024 when the convict lured the girl, a Class IV student and his next-door neighbour, into his home during the day, locked the door and sexually abused her.The girl later informed her family, following which a police complaint was lodged. Police investigated the case and submitted a chargesheet against the accused within three months.After an extended trial, the court found the accused guilty and imposed the sentence of rigorous imprisonment.In a separate case, the district and sessions court in Unakoti convicted a person of Fulbarikandi village in Kailashahar under Section 354(D) of the IPC in for stalking in 2022. He was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000.
