Ghaziabad: An FIR has been registered against four people for allegedly using a forged oath commissioner’s seal on a bail affidavit submitted before the court of an additional chief judicial magistrate. The accused, arrested in a 2023 copyright infringement case in Modinagar, had allegedly got the fake seal affixed through their pairokar(an agent or representative) and bail guarantor to secure bail, police said.A publisher, Anuj Goyal, had filed a complaint at the Modinagar police station on April 29, 2023, alleging that Sumit Aggarwal and Hitendra Jain had been selling CBSE computer books from classes I to VIII using the label of his publication. Police conducted raids at their depots. One hundred and forty pirated books were found in Jain’s depot and 21 were seized from Aggarwal’s shop. They were subsequently arrested under sections of the Copyright Act, 1957.The two men were released on bail. However, an advocate practising in the court, Ankit Mittal, alleged that Jain and Aggarwal forged the oath commissioner’s seal, got it attached to their affidavit with the help of their pairokar and guarantor and secured their bail. Mittal said faking the seal of an oath commissioner and affixing it to the affidavit for obtaining bail is a serious offence.Kavinagar ACP Suryabali Maurya said an FIR has been registered against Aggarwal, Jain and their pairokar and bail guarantor under sections 318(4) (punishment for cheating), 336(3) (forgery for cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.) and 340(2) (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of BNS. A team has been formed to investigate the case and the investigation is underway.In March 2025, two brothers — Sunil Kumar and Anil Kumar — had obtained bail in the same way. Both were arrested in a cheating case by a team from the Tronica City police station. In Feb that year, two others — Kiran Pal and Siddharth Tyagi — came out on bail after producing fake documents. They too had also been arrested by the same police station team in a fraud case.
