Panchkula: After winning the Municipal Corporation elections, mayor Sham Lal Bansal assured that he would get patchwork done on roads “immediately” but monsoon has set in and there is nothing to show for the assurance. To top it all, residents will have to put up with the crumbling roads at least till Sept, when the monsoon season ends. Most of the damaged roads are under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation and HSVP. With the two departments failing to do the needful before the start of the monsoon last week, commuters have to bear with bumpy rides and face a higher risk of road accidents on several stretches.Besides being potholed, roads on many stretches under the MC also show other damage. Patchwork is rarely to be seen. Even a roundabout near the MC office in Sector 14 has got several potholes.A random check revealed that market parking lots in sectors, including 14, 15, 20 and others, have heavily damaged roads.Roads behind showrooms in sectors 8 and 9 also need recarpeting. With the MC failing to act, commuters are at the receiving end, especially during the monsoon.Roads in sectors 16, 17, 18, 28, 21, 6, 15, at the entrance of civil hospital and other areas are crying for attention. In Industrial Area, phases 1 and 2, there has been little improvement for long.“Authorities should have at least have got patch work done in all the affected areas before the monsoon. These days, due to rainwater covering potholes, car drivers get their vehicles damaged, and two-wheelers riders are at an increased risk of accidents. Besides, it adds to waterlogging, slush and insanitary condition,” said S K Nayar, president, Panchkula Citizens Welfare Association.Meanwhile, the Mayor did not respond to calls for comments.
