9 from Africa detained in combing operation across Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: In a combing operation by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Navi Mumbai crime branch in various nodes across Navi Mumbai Thursday, as many as nine African nationals, including six men and three women, were detained for overstaying their visas and violating the Passports Act and Foreigners Act, apart from already being booked in NDPS cases.Sandeep Nigade, senior inspector of ANC, said, “Out of nine detained Africans, NDPS Act and Passports Act cases are registered against five of them residing in Kharghar and Taloja. Two others from Kharghar and Taloja will be deported to their native country, Nigeria, as they were found to be overstaying in India after their visas expired. Two Africans from Ulwe and Panvel were found to have married Indian women. Also, an FIR was registered against two landlords under the Immigration and Foreigners Act for defying the law while renting their apartments to African nationals.
