80% households in ADC areas have piped water: Saha

Agartala: About 80% of households in Tripura’s autonomous district council (ADC) region have access to piped drinking water, CM Dr Manik Saha informed the assembly on Thursday.Replying to a query from TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma on the opening day of the monsoon session, Saha said the govt was adopting innovative measures to address water shortages, particularly in hilly and remote areas. He expressed confidence that the remaining work will be completed soon.Debbarma urged the govt to take immediate steps to address the drinking water crisis in several communities. He also referred to a road blockade in the Mungiakami hills of West Tripura, where minister Kishor Barman was reportedly stranded, and sought measures to resolve the problems faced by residents.Saha, who holds the drinking water and sanitation portfolio, said water scarcity persisted in some hilly areas because of geographical challenges and the absence of suitable groundwater sources.
