Shillong: The Meghalaya govt has launched the ‘Tracing the Roots’ programme to reconnect with the indigenous heritage and history of the state.Under the initiative, 75 scholars will travel to Vietnam, Cambodia and Tibet to study and document the origins and historical journeys of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo communities.CM Conrad K Sangma launched the programme in Tura, the headquarters of West Garo Hills district, on Tuesday. “The initiative is not merely academic, but rooted in identity, heritage and collective memory. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it will bring together historical research, oral traditions, indigenous knowledge, linguistics, archaeology and archival study,” he said.
