LUCKNOW: At least six people were killed after a severe storm and strong winds battered several UP districts early Friday, said the relief commissioner’s office.Officials said one death each was recorded in Pratapgarh, Shahjahanpur, and Fatehpur, while three people died in Kaushambi. Besides these six deaths, six workers were killed after a portion of an underconstruction bridge collapsed in gusty winds in Hamirpur.The state administration launched an assessment of the damage caused by the storm across affected districts. Emergency response teams were deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations, while local authorities were monitoring the situation and extending assistance to affected families.Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded exceptionally high wind speeds in several parts of the state during the night.Hamirpur’s Sumerpur Polytechnic College reported the highest wind speed at 122 kmph. Jalaun’s Orai tehsil recorded gusts of 118 kmph, while Banda registered wind speeds of 111 kmph at the Circuit House and 100 kmph in Pailani. Mirzapur also recorded winds touching 100 kmph.In western Uttar Pradesh, wind speeds reached 109 kmph in Hathras’ Jahangirpur village and 100 kmph in Etmadpur, Agra.
