Navi Mumbai: In a major overhaul of education in the city, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has taken transformative steps by starting admissions to English-medium nursery class 1 (part of nursery classes) in its 51 primary schools from this academic year.The civic body’s approach under the leadership of forest minister Ganesh Naik received appreciation from residents. The proposal was moved by house chief Sagar Naik. The age requirement for admission to Balvatika 1 (Nursery – English Medium) is three years to four years. Birth certificate, Aadhaar card of parents, residence certificate and passport-size photos are to be produced for admission. The admission process has started, limiting the numbers to 30 students in a class. Quality education will be provided in English medium by experienced and trained teachers in all primary schools under a safe, clean and child-friendly environment. The civic body, in a media release, has appealed to the parents to contact the primary schools for admission of their children. Educational items are being provided by the NMMC.A civic body doctor requesting anonymity said, “This step will provide an equal opportunity to students who were unable to afford English medium education. Vernacular medium study will continue”. The structure as per the new National Education Policy (NEP) is being followed. The level structure includes kindergarten one, two, three, as well as grades 1st and 2nd for the age group of three to eight. The preparatory level covers the age group of eight to 11 years and includes grades 3rd, 4th and 5th. The pre-secondary level is for the age group of 11 to 14 years and includes grades 6th, 7th and 8th. The secondary level for the age group of 14 to 18 includes grades 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.
