Ahmedabad: The Gujarat unit of the Congress party said on Friday that five students died by suicide in Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara over the past eight days, terming the trend as a “growing crisis among students and young people in the state”.GPCC media convener Manish Doshi said that 1,899 students had died by suicide in Gujarat over the past three years, including 568 in 2024. “This situation is a serious concern for the education system, mental health and employment prospects of young people,” he said, demanding that govt implement a time-bound action plan to check student suicides.Doshi said there is a need to reduce the cost of education, ensure timely recruitment and employment opportunities after graduation, and strengthen career guidance and mental health support for students.
