Kota: Six people were arrested after police intercepted a container carrying 42 cattle on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Wednesday night.The accused were identified as Raja alias Bhayyu (30), of Mandsour in Madhya Pradesh; Mahendra Singh (34), of Piplyamandi in Madhya Pradesh; Israr Ahmed (33) and Mohammed Chand (36), both from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh; Nasir Mohammed (45), of Sarwar in Ajmer; and Arif Hussain (24), of Kekri in Ajmer. Police seized the Hyundai car and the Tata container truck.Kota Rural police, District Special Team (DST) and Chechat police had set up a checkpoint under ‘Operation Route Clearance’ near Eight-Lane Toll Plaza when a Hyundai car, allegedly being used as an escort vehicle, approached from Modak. Police said the driver tried to speed away after being signalled to stop but was intercepted.The driver, Nisar Ahmed, and another occupant told police during questioning that they were escorting a container carrying cattle. Soon after, the container, bearing registration number HR37 E 8593, approached the checkpoint. Police said its driver attempted to make a U-turn after noticing the barricade but was stopped. Three other people were found inside the container.Police found 42 cattle inside the container. The animals included six cows, four female calves, two bulls and 29 male calves. One calf was found dead, allegedly due to suffocation.The 41 surviving cattle were taken to Shri Hanuman Gaushala in Barodiya Kala. A post-mortem examination of the dead calf.A preliminary interrogation revealed that the cattle had been loaded in Gulabpura in Bhilwara and were being transported to Maharashtra, police said.
