NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced the closure of four metro stations till further notice due to security reasons as the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar entered its third day.In a post on X, DMRC said Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat metro stations had been closed with immediate effect.“Due to security reasons, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat metro stations have been closed till further instructions. Interchange facility is available at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat,” DMRC said. The announcement came amid heightened security in central Delhi as protesters continued their sit-in at Jantar Mantar following Monday’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, which witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police near Parliament. The party reiterated that it would not end the agitation until Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.“We will not leave Jantar Mantar until Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns,” CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said. The protest entered its third day after Delhi Police registered several FIRs in connection with Monday’s violence and alleged vandalism.CJP has accused the police of using excessive force during the crackdown, while police have alleged that several personnel were injured during the clashes.Meanwhile, opposition MPs are also expected to stage a protest outside Parliament over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the police action against student protesters.
