Kangkan Kalita/Joken EteGuwahati/Itanagar: Over 90,000 people have been affected by relentless monsoon rains that have triggered floods and landslides across Arunachal Pradesh, claiming four lives and leaving two missing. Amid the widespread devastation, Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrived in the state on Tuesday to review the situation and assess ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. The death toll rose to four, with one more fatality confirmed on Tuesday.The Arunachal Pradesh Disaster Management Department said a 32‑year‑old excavator operator from Assam died in a landslide at Sarti village in Anjaw district on Monday while clearing a road. The other three deaths occurred in flash floods that struck NEEPCO Colony in Keyi Panyor district last week. Two persons, including a minor girl, remain missing.Though rainfall eased in parts of the state on Tuesday, damage continued. Flash floods and landslides destroyed 24 houses in Sagalee subdivision of Papum Pare district and four houses in Doimukh.Chouhan will conduct ground and aerial surveys of flood‑hit areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on Wednesday to assess damage and plan relief measures. He is accompanied by Union minister Kiren Rijiju and CM Pema Khandu.On Tuesday, Khandu joined inspections in Hoj and Potin, among the worst‑affected areas in Keyi Panyor district, and said on social media, “Our immediate priority is to ensure swift relief for every affected family, restore essential services, and expedite the rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas impacted by the floods.”Later, Chouhan chaired a meeting with senior officials at the Itanagar secretariat, reviewing relief and rehabilitation measures. He said farmers’ concerns had been conveyed to the Centre and that the Union govt, under PM Narendra Modi, was ready to extend all possible assistance.CM Khandu met governor KT Parnaik and briefed him on the flood situation in various parts of the state alongside ongoing relief operations.On Wednesday, Chouhan will undertake an aerial survey across both states to assess rivers, embankments, roads, and farmland, followed by a review meeting in Guwahati with senior Assam officials on flood management and support for affected farmers.Meanwhile, a massive landslide and flash floods have devastated Rotte village in Lower Siang district, cutting it off from the rest of Arunachal Pradesh. A large portion of the village, including paddy fields, horticulture gardens, and livestock, has been washed away, said Kurung Kumey DIPRO David Koyu, a resident.
