Hyderabad: The Director of Intermediate Education has cancelled the appointments of 35 junior lecturers after a fresh verification of educational certificates found that the degrees submitted by them for regularisation were not genuine. The certificates were found not to have been issued by the universities concerned. The action follows a verification exercise covering certificates of nearly 360 junior lecturers who were regularised from contract services. The department approached the respective universities with the certificates produced by the lecturers and sought confirmation on their genuineness. The exercise followed complaints that some contract junior lecturers had submitted fake certificates while seeking regularisation in 2023. The department had earlier issued show-cause notices to 37 lecturers after universities indicated that postgraduate or BTech certificates submitted by them were not issued by the respective institutions. The lecturers were asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated and why criminal cases for forgery and cheating should not be filed against them.Of the 37 lecturers who were issued notices, 35 have now figured in the list of lecturers whose appointments were cancelled after their explanations failed to satisfactorily address the findings. The lecturers have been working in govt junior colleges across Telangana and include those teaching English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, civics, commerce and Hindi. The orders were issued by the Director of Intermediate Education, which works under the Board of Intermediate Education, on Oct 1. In one case, the appointment of a junior lecturer in English at a govt junior college in Nirmal was cancelled after the university confirmed that it had not issued it. The department examined his explanation but rejected it, noting the university’s denial of the certificate’s issuance and genuineness. The director had earlier dismissed 20 junior lecturers after fake certificates were detected and terminated another 20 during the regularisation process.
