Chandigarh: The UT administration expects good revenue from the new vehicle registration series, CH-01-DG, to be launched on Monday during Navratri.The three-day online bidding process began on Saturday and will end on Monday evening. The Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has received an enthusiastic response to the new series, with 20 to 32 applicants for individual registration numbers in the online auction.According to RLA records, during the one-week designated registration period that ended on Friday, CH01-DG-0007 received the highest number of applications, at 32. This was followed by CH01-DG-0005, with 30 applicants; CH01-DG-0003 and CH01-DG-0009, with 26 each; and CH01-DG-0004, with 22 applicants.The figures may rise if more applicants express interest in any of the fancy numbers before 5pm on Monday. Bids will be opened after 5pm, and the names of the highest bidders will be announced.“Since Navratri is considered auspicious for buying vehicles and obtaining fancy registration numbers, the RLA has been receiving numerous queries about the launch of the new series and its fancy numbers over the past several days. The department hopes to generate good revenue from the new series. Initially, the series will be open to bidders for fancy numbers, after which it will be opened to the general public,” sources said.As in the past, the new vehicle registration series, CH01-DG, will have 9,999 registration numbers. Of these, 272 are designated fancy numbers that can be allotted only through auction. Fancy numbers in the new series that do not attract bids in the ongoing auction will be put up for auction again through online bidding.
