Jaipur: Thirty-two govt medical officers have been ordered to join duty immediately and explain their absence after failing to report to postings issued by the state govt on Aug 19, 2026. The health department said the doctors, who had either completed postgraduate studies over the past year or were awaiting fresh posting orders, did not assume charge at their assigned health institutions across the state.Officials said the MBBS doctors had been granted study leave to pursue postgraduate courses but failed to resume service despite the posting order. A senior health department official said the conduct amounted to disregard of govt orders and directions issued by senior officers, besides negligence towards official duties. The department has treated the matter as serious, particularly because seasonal disease risks are rising and medical officers are required to be available at public health facilities to maintain essential services.The doctors have been directed to submit written explanations within three days of receiving the notice. Their replies must clearly state the reasons for remaining absent and include specific comments from the controlling officer concerned. The department has warned that failure to respond within the stipulated period will lead to proposed disciplinary action under the CCA Rules.The notice also makes the officers personally responsible for non-compliance and indicates that further action may follow if they continue to remain absent from duty. Health officials said the postings were issued to strengthen medical services in different districts and that delays in joining place additional pressure on existing staff at govt hospitals and health centres, especially during periods of increased patient load across rural and urban areas.
