Ludhiana: A few people in Nihang attire allegedly caught three youths suspected of possessing drugs, tied them to a pole and thrashed them with slippers. Two of the three youths were allegedly wearing police T-shirts. A video of the incident, which took place in the Dehlon area, has surfaced.The video shows a group of men dressed like Nihang Sikhs surrounding the youths. They are seen tying one of the youths, who is wearing clothes similar to a police uniform, to a pole and beating him with slippers. The visibly traumatised man is seen pleading with folded hands.When asked which police station he belonged to, he stammers, “Dehlon”. The men then ask him what he was doing with “chitta” in the vehicle.Police said the youths were not policemen and that their police-like attire had led to the confusion.SHO, Dehlon police station, inspector Vijay Kumar, said police received information that some people were consuming drugs at a vacant plot. He added that the Nihang-attired men caught the youths, who were later arrested by police.Police subsequently registered a case against the three youths — Ajay Sharma, Akashdeep and Gurkirat Singh — under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.The SHO said the accused were wearing T-shirts resembling police uniforms, which were available in the market. He added that the youths were wearing such T-shirts to intimidate people and consume drugs without being obstructed.As per the FIR registered on the complaint of Dehlon police station sub-inspector Gurmeet Singh, a lighter, silver foil and a Rs 10 note were recovered from the spot.
