3 women cutting grass killed in expressway hit and run

Jaipur: Three women working on contract were killed after an unidentified vehicle allegedly ran them over while they were cutting grass along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Jaipur Sunday evening, police said.The accident occurred around 6pm near pillar number 48.2 under Jamwaramgarh police station. Police said the women were working alongside the expressway when the vehicle veered towards them and hit all three. The driver fled the spot without stopping.The deceased were identified as Prem Devi (55), wife of Ramnath Balai, Manphuli Devi (50), wife of Buddhram, and Kaushalya Devi (45), wife of Ramchandra. All three were residents of Newar village in Jamwaramgarh and had been engaged on contract to cut grass along the expressway.The accident led to traffic congestion on the busy expressway, with vehicles backing up for nearly 5km. Police and other officials reached the spot and began efforts to identify the vehicle and trace its driver.The bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police are examining evidence collected from the spot and checking details of vehicles that passed through the stretch around the time of the accident.The traffic jam affected several motorists, with BJP state president Madan Rathore also among those caught in the congestion.Police said efforts were on to identify the vehicle and arrest its driver. Further investigation is underway.
