CHENNAI: Former BJP functionary and three-time MLA S Vijayadharani is likely to join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Saturday. She, along with her supporters, reached the ruling party’s Panaiyur headquarters to join the party in the presence of its general secretary and Rural Development minister N Anand.Vijayadharani unsuccessfully contested from Vilavancode on a BJP ticket in the April 23 Assembly election. She secured 45,604 votes and finished third. Congress candidate T T Praveen won the seat, while TVK’s Michael Kumar came second.A former Congress leader, Vijayadharani represented the Vilavancode constituency for three consecutive terms in 2011, 2016 and 2021. She resigned as MLA in February 2024, citing a lack of recognition for her seniority and work in the party. She later joined the BJP at the party headquarters in New Delhi and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.After over two years in the BJP without a major position or responsibility, Vijayadharani quit the party to join chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s TVK, opening a new chapter in her political career.
